Engaging Next-Gen Through Venture Capital Investing

We are not wired to sit by when we know we can do something. Thus, this creative and fun partnership was born.

I often hear questions about how families can motivate the next-gen to engage in their financial future and, specifically, learn about investing. One thing we know to be true, is that experiential learning facilitates actual learning.

We are excited to partner with Groundswell Ventures to offer another pathway for experiential learning. Groundswell is a venture capital firm that invests in companies creating innovative solutions to critical issues in the health and wellness, and climate and sustainability sectors.

You can learn more about Groundswell by visiting their website or reaching out to its founder, Jeremy Harkey. Full disclosure, Jeremy is my incredible husband and his Co-General Partner Kathryn is a dear friend.

The inspiration for integrating Northbound into Groundswell’s new fund came from Jeremy’s past work as a Northbound Consultant. He, and we, have observed firsthand that parents want to engage their next-gen in investing and financial stewardship, and many families struggle to create meaningful learning opportunities that resonate with and inspire their next-gens.

Northbound will support Groundswell in curating its next-gen investor relations program. Next-gens will learn, through the lens of the Groundswell portfolio in which their family has a financial stake, about venture capital investing and the intersection of entrepreneurship and social and environmental change. Participants will have access to exclusive quarterly Q&A sessions, and regular meetings in which they will meet portfolio companies’ founders; learn the nuts and bolts of VC investing; and hear about how Groundswell supports its portfolio through leadership coaching and strategic advising. They will do this in a confidential environment, among next-gen peers.
